Sassafras has a long history of usage among North American herbalists and was traditionally used by indigenous people of eastern North America.

Historic usages included tonics, liniments, purifiers, and famously in America as a flavoring for root beer.

Please Note: Animal studies in the 1970’s showed that safrole caused permanent damage to liver tissue, leading to it’s ban in food products by the FDA.
